"My career path started in the summer of 2000, when I was hired as an intern at JELD-WEN Fiber of Oregon. I knew a lot about JELD-WEN from past Iowa State graduates and was excited to be a part of this program.

Initially, I spent a lot of time on the floor getting to know the fiber skin process. This included spending time in each of the major areas of production; grading, sizing, priming, and shipping. One great thing about working on the line is that you get to know all employees and they will help you a great deal to understand the process. The general manager, Rick Ivie, and his staff were great to work with and assigned me projects to work on throughout the summer.

After completing my degree in Forestry (12/2000), I was hired by another JELD-WEN company, Paxton "The Wood Source" in Denver. As a manager trainee, I learned the equipment and operations side of the Paxton business. In the summer, I was promoted to operations manager. A year later, in the fall of 2002, I was then promoted to quality facilitator in Little Rock, AK.

I have really enjoyed my career with JELD-WEN since graduating from college. I wanted a position to utilize my forestry degree from ISU and JELD-WEN was "the perfect fit" for me.

The most important advice that I would give to any person looking for a solid career with JELD-WEN, is to be ready to work hard. As an intern or manager trainee in the production environment, you will need to be "hands-on" ---ready to get "down and dirty." A young manager may feel a little frustrated working the graveyard shift starting at JELD-WEN, but you will soon feel the rewards of your hard work. Getting to know the product and processes in window, door, or millwork manufacturing early on in your career will make you more promotable in the future, and you will have a successful career with JELD-WEN."

JELD-WEN Internship Program

Shaping Futures

A JELD-WEN internship is a unique chance for you to join a special group of future industry professionals: the team of summer JELD-WEN interns. Unlike many typical corporate-sponsored summer jobs, a JELD-WEN internship is a hands-on management training opportunity to learn our business from the inside out, and see if we're a perfect fit for your future, right upon graduation.

Interns and JELD-WEN choose each other. This means that students are rewarded with as rich an experience as JELD-WEN can provide, in exchange for the student having considered and decided that they are seriously interested in a career in window and door manufacturing or distribution. Students in their third academic year of college, that plan to finish college the following year, are invited to apply.

Interns gain valuable exposure to all areas of our business, while interning in actual production and managerial positions at one of our window, door, millwork manufacturing or distribution companies. By both observing and participating in management, you'll essentially be apprenticed in all key aspects of our business, learning the complete business process.

Administrative management internships at JELD-WEN's corporate office in Klamath Falls, OR are offered in the accounting and finance, information systems, marketing and risk management departments. Each of the departments offers a great opportunity to learn how to effectively support the operating companies of an organization. An administrative internship also provides the intern with a "laboratory" for practicing the technical side of the intern's college major.

With the completion of a successful internship, students are frequently offered full-time employment as managment trainees and invited to join JELD-WEN's Management Development Program upon completing their undergraduate degree.

Should you join the JELD-WEN team full-time, you'll have the opportunity to grow with a company that is already expanding nationally and internationally. At JELD-WEN, you grow as the company grows. We contribute to your education with our tuition reimbursement program and provide extensive management training. In turn, you get to help be responsible for the growth of the corporation. The opportunity is here!

Internship Length: 10-12 weeks in US / 12-16 weeks in Canada

Salary - Paid Every Two Weeks: $1,100 US plus overtime/ $1,300 CAN plus overtime

A JELD-WEN internship is a valuable chance to test-drive a career direction you have in mind, before you actually commit to a career when you graduate. It's real-world experience. You'll have a whole summer to learn the ropes. As a JELD-WEN intern, we'll guide and support you through every step of your internship. After the internship, you'll return for your senior year armed with in-depth insights which can't be duplicated. It's an unbeatable opportunity to focus on your college major and career.

We encourage you to review a few questions to determine if a JELD-WEN Manufacturing or Distribution internship is right for you.
